Bisibela Bath

Ingredients:

  • Rice - 1 cup
  • Toor dal - 1/2 cup
  • Onion - 2
  • Vegetables - 1/2 cup (brinjal, beans, carrot, drum stick - anything of your choice)
  • Tamarind pulp - 2 Tbsp
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Ghee - 2 Tbsp
  • Oil - 2 tsp
  • Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
  • Curry leaves
  • Coriander leaves

For Masala Powder

  • Bengal gram - 2 Tbsp
  • Urad dal - 2 Tbsp
  • Coriander seeds - 1 Tbsp
  • Fenugreek seeds - 1/2 tsp
  • Cinnamon - 1" piece
  • Cardamom - 2
  • Red chilly - 10 (or as required spice)
  • Dry coconut - 2"piece

Preparation:

  1. Roast the ingredients for the masala powder with a tsp of oil and grind them to a coarse powder.
  2. In a pressure pan, half cook the toor dal along with turmeric powder. Add rice, onion, vegetables and add required water and half cook the rice.
  3. Now add the tamarind pulp and salt.
  4. After a boil add the masala powder and mix well by adding ghee till the rice comes to a semi liquid consistency.
  5. In a frying pan add oil and splutter mustard seeds and add curry leaves and coriander leaves and add this to the rice. Serve with ghee.
