Sambar

Ingredients:

  • Toor dal - 1 CUP
  • Coriander seeds - 1Tbsp
  • Bengal Gram - 2 Tbsp
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Fenugreek seeds - 1/2 tsp
  • Tamarind pulp - 2 Tbsp
  • Cumin seeds - 1/2 tsp
  • Red chillies - 10
  • Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
  • Asafetida - 1/4 tsp
  • Raw rice - 2 tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil
  • Curry leaves
  • Coriander leaves
  • Cooked vegetables - 1/2 cup

Preparation:

  1. Cook toor dal with asafetida powder and turmeric powder.
  2. Heat a pan and add bengal gram, raw rice, red chillies, coriander seeds, curry leaves, fenugreek seeds, cumin seeds. Roast them and grind to a fine powder.
  3. Heat oil in pan, splutter mustard seed and add fenugreek seeds, curry leaves, coriander leaves and add the cooked dal and vegetable.
  4. Leave it a boil and add the tamarind pulp and salt. After the gravy thickens a bit, add the powdered masala and give it a boil. Don't over cook.
