Tamarind Rice

Ingredients:

  • Cooked raw rice - 2 cups
  • Red chillies - 5
  • Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
  • Roasted peanuts - 1/2 cup
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Curry leaves
  • Tamarind pulp - 4 Tbsp
  • Asafetida - a pinch
  • Sesame seeds - 2 Tbsp (roasted and powdered)
  • Bengal gram - 1 tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Gingely oil

Preparation:

  1. Heat oil in a pan and splutter mustard seeds. Add curry leaves, red chillies, bengal gram and fry a little.
  2. Add turmeric powder, asafetida powder, roasted peanuts and fry a little.
  3. Add the tamarind pulp and salt.
  4. Add the sesame powder and leave it to boil.
  5. Add this mixture to the rice and mix well.
